I just wanted to say Thank You again for the Fire Warden/Awareness training course which I was on yesterday morning at Hereford Group Training Agency. One of the things I took away was about the emphasis on Prevention. Yesterday afternoon, I was at a friend’s flat and we were in the kitchen where her Washing Machine started giving off smoke and smelling of burning (there was a context). Confident from my morning’s awareness raising, I didn’t hesitate to call 999, aware of potential danger of a smoking electrical appliance being a precursor to a fire. Within a very short time the fire service came, and confirmed that I had done the right thing to call them. There was some sort of electrical fault at the back of the appliance. They did what was required to make the area safe. They also checked all the smoke and heat detection in the property, which luckily, I had recently had updated as I was already getting more aware of the importance of preventative fire safety domestically, as well as in my role as a Director of Ashford Residents Company.
